Getting Here

How to get here:

  • Spike Island is reached by ferry from Kennedy Pier, Cobh.
  • The heritage town of Cobh is just 24 minutes by train or 25 minutes by car from Cork city centre.
  • Parking is recommended at the Five Foot Way (10-minute walk) or Cobh Cathedral car park (15-minute walk).
  • Allow at least 20 minutes to park and walk to the ferry. The ferry must leave on time and cannot wait, there are no refunds or options of later sailings for late arrivals.
  • Cafe and toilet facilities located on the island. Allow up to 3.5 hours per visit. Longer / shorter visits on request.

How to get here by train

You can travel to Cobh by train from Kent Station in Cork City.

Trains presently depart Kent Station, Cork City every hour, on the hour, but check the website.

Trains presently return from Cobh train Station every hour for half hour, but check the website.

The train takes 24 minutes stopping at Little Island, Glounthaune, Fota and then Cobh.

To walk to the ferry departure point, exit the train station and turn right. Walk down Westbourne Place with the water on your right-hand side, past JFK memorial park and also Titanic Cobh. The Spike Island ticket office and ferry departure point will be on your right, on Kennedy Pier.

From Cork City

  • From McCurtain Street take N8 East, signposted Dublin N25.
  • 3.2 ml – At the roundabout take the second exit, straight ahead on N8, signposted Dublin.
  • 0.3 ml – Keep right/stay on N25 signposted Rosslare, Waterford.
  • 4.6 ml – Take exit 3 onto R624, signposted Cobh.
  • 0.3 ml – At the roundabout take the 4th exit onto R624, Cobh.
  • 0.3 ml – At the roundabout take the first exit, left, R624 for Cobh.
  • 1.9 ml – Cross bridge, take right.
  • 4.0 ml – Follow the road for Cobh, and arrive town centre.

From North

Parking

Free parking is available at the Five Foot Way car park by the Cobh Heritage Centre, which is one kilometre from Cobh centre, a 10-minute walk.

Paid Parking is available at the car park on the north side of Cobh Cathedral, which is a 15-minute walk to Kennedy Pier, Cobh.

Parking in Cobh centre is currently limited to 3 hours.

Please note – parking is NOT allowed on Kennedy Pier and the owners enforce clamping.

Ferry

Spike Island can only be reached by ferry. The ferry to Spike Island departs from Kennedy Pier, which is right in the town centre next to Titanic Cobh.

The ferry journey is just 10 – 15 minutes each way.

Tickets can be bought at the kiosk but advance booking online is highly recommended as boats do sell out. Advance tickets are available HERE
