Spike Island Development Company is tasked with the day to day running of Spike Island, a heritage island set in Cork harbour.  The island is over 104 acres in size and has a rich and varied history.  The island operates a ticket office in Cobh, guided and self guided tours on the island, retail and cafe spaces, as well as evening tours, events, and facilitating stakeholders.  Our island maintenance team maintain the island and fortress, while our front line service is backed up by administration staff working in ticketing, customer service, accounts and reconcillation.

Cleaner - Required for maternity cover period of 7 months - May to November - 32.5 hours per week - €11.75 per hour. 

Details - We require a cleaner to join our island team to cover a period of maternity leave.  The role will include general cleaning duties and completing corresponding paperwork, to include - Empty Bins - Vacuum Floors - Wash Floor - Clean all machines and surfaces, including glass, brass and stainless steel displays - Cleaning of all chrome and light switches - Cleaning of offices - Cleaning bathrooms and cafe areas - 

You will join a dedicated island team in a truly special location, travelling to the island daily to complete the role (12 minute ferry journey).  The hours of work are 9.30am to 4pm daily, five days a week, 32.5 hours a week.  You will work every second weekend on rotation with another cleaner, and Monday to Friday the other week.  Some tasks will take place during the overlap of three days, when two cleaners are working, and you will work solo for two days out of five, with assistance from the islands mainteance and operations team.

Full training will be provided, but experience of a similar cleaning role is desirable.

Role description - We are recruiting tour guides and staff to operate our various retail and coffee service areas for the summer period.  Typically May to August, with some training intake days in May and June.  This is a chance to join a highly motivated island team in a truly special location, delivering tours to eager holidaymakers, or interacting with them in our retail and beverage service areas.  Full training can be provided, and experience in a certain role is advantageious. 

HOURS AND DETAILS -  We have flexibilty between part - time days and hours up to full time hours, typically between the hours of 9am and 5.30pm, with rare evening work.
