Mark Billingham

Mark Billingham is one of the UK’s most acclaimed and popular crime writers. He has twice won the Theakston Old Peculier Award for Crime Novel of the Year, the Theakston Old Peculier Outstanding Contribution Award, the Sherlock Award for the best detective created by a British writer and in 2026 he was awarded the Crime Writers’ Association Diamond Dagger for an outstanding lifetime contribution to the genre. His novels have now sold in excess of 6.5 million copies, he has had 25 Sunday Times bestsellers (every one of his titles) and has spent well over 150 weeks in the top ten. Sleepyhead was chosen by the Sunday Times as one of the 100 books that had shaped the decade and Rabbit Hole, his 2020 novel, was named as Crime Book of the Year by The Times. Two TV series have been made of Mark’s books – Thorne by Sky starring David Morrissey, and In the Dark by the BBC. A third series is currently in development.

Mark’s  latest novel, The Shadow Step, is the third in the series featuring DS Declan Miller, and publishes in July 2026, and his latet Tom Thorne novel, What the Night Brings, comes out in paperback in March 2026.

Mark lives in London with his wife and two children. When he is not living out rock-star fantasies as a member of the Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers, he is hard at what is laughably called ‘work’, writing his next novel.
